| Penny Allen Latter-day Saints may associate Penny’s name (Penelope Moody Allen) with the texts of hymns no. 143, “Let the Holy Spirit Guide,” and no. 71, “With Songs of Praise” in the Church’s hymnal. Penny was born and raised in California. She received her bachelor’s from San Jose State and her master’s from Brigham Young University. She met Gary Lee Allen while she was on the BYU faculty and in 1963 married him in the Manti Temple. As a stay-at-home mom in Bountiful, Utah, she reared a son and three daughters. Her last paid job was teaching English at the BYU Salt Lake Center. Penny’s poems, articles, and song texts have been published in books of compiled poetry, the Ensign and Friend magazines, and in assorted music formats. Gary and Penny live in Centerville, Utah.
