| Louise Plummer
Louise Plummer is a creative writer specializing in the young adult novel. Her first novel, The Romantic Obsessions and Humiliations of Annie Sehlmeier (1987), won honorable mention in the Delacorte Press First Young Adult Novel Contest and was a children's choice book with both the New York Public Library and the International Reading Association. Her second novel, My Name is Sus5an Smith. The 5 is Silent (1991), was an ALA Best Book, a School Library Journal Best Book, Utah Arts Council Best Young Adult Novel, Association of Mormon Letters Best Young Adult Novel, and a New York Public Library Children's Choice Book. It has also been translated into French. The Unlikely Romance of Kate Bjorkrnan (Delacorte 1995) is a comic novel that takes place during the Christmas holidays. It was an ALA Best Book and a School Library Journal Best Book as well as the Association of Mormon Letters Best Young Adult Novel. Her latest work is A Dance For Three (Delacorte, 2000) is also an ALA Best Book Besides young adult fiction, Professor Plummer has also written a collection of personal essays: Thoughts of a Grasshopper: Essays and Oddities (1992). Plummer teaches courses in writing for children and adolescents, creative writing, and writing the young adult novel. She also teaches English 251. She and her husband Tom (Professor in Germanic and Slavic Languages) teach Honors 300, Memoir and the Imagination. Professor Plummer is an enthusiastic mentor and has had students publish both fiction and personal essays in national and regional publications.
