Genre History
For many decades students attending the institutions of higher learning within the Church Educational System of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have attended campus-wide speaking events known as "devotionals." Such speeches are typically given by general authorities of the Church, by educational leaders within the Church, and by faculty members of those institutions. While always religious and inspirational in nature, devotional addresses have ranged across a wide variety of contemporary, educational, and political topics.
Bibliography
Devotional addresses, as well as forum addresses given at BYU, have been collected in annual compilations (included in this database). These, as well as audio versions of many of these speeches, are available for purchase through Speeches.byu.edu.
